Beautiful, Cloud Point/Step Snow Pattern Overlay!
This wonderful overlaid ring features traditional tooled/overlaid Hopi pattern in bright finish sterling silver with textured, oxidized background. The cut-out design features a repeating cloud and snow symbol -- pertaining to the source of water and Winter. It measures 1/4" wide and is sized for a 8 1/2. It is hallmarked inside by artist Lyle Fred.
Hopi silversmiths developed their signature overlay style by returning GIs after WWII, using money from the GI Bill to set up crafts co-operatives. One of the curators of the Museum of Northern Arizona, Barton Wright was instrumental in helping them recover and re-create ancient, truly Hopi designs in their jewelry making. It is today, one of the forms of American Indian silver jewelry in the highest demand world-wide, and still in relatively small supply. Imitated often, it is rarely equalled in detail, finish and design. Authentic Hopi work, like this ring, is a miracle of the silversmith's art.
