Pueblo Handmade Inlaid Shell & Amethyst Necklace

This wonderful shell pendant necklace features contemporary nephrite and turquoise mosaic on a young, purple spondylous shell with a sterling accent channel. The artist is Chery Crespin of Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM, USA. Turquoise is plentiful in the Southwest USA and has been used for bead and mosaic work by the Southwestern indigenous people for more than 1000 years. This pendant is hung upon strands of amethyst and turquoise handmade beads. It measures 2 1/16" long, ex bale -- 20" overall including the amethyst beads.

Santo Domingo Pueblo is the last location where this type of shell mosaic overlay is still done regularly -- with amazing results!
