This wonderful , whimsical piece features traditional sterling tooling, a solid bezel -- plus, really nice, freeform, specimen turquoise from Carico Lake, NV. Silversmith Nelson Morgan, of the famous family, specializes in three-dimensional sculptural figures of kachinas and other masked spirits and drummers. This Koshare is beating an open-frame drum and standing upon the turquoise setting. The bale is removable, leaving a pin/brooch clip and a loop which may be used for hanging on a thin chain. Hallmarked, and stamped sterling it measures 3" long overall. The bale can accept up to a 1/2" diameter bead set, chain or cord if gently opened with a needle nosed plier rotated inside to spread the opening.. Figurative silver work like this is one of the the best examples of the developing Navajo fine arts and will make a striking addition to anyone's wardrobe!
