SquareTrade © AP6.0| Handcoiled, Wood-Fired Slip Decorated Miniature Hopi Dough Bowl c. 1940. This wonderful, wide, shallow bowl is not unlike traditional cooking bowls still in use up on the Hopi Mesas. It measures 2 9/16" in diameter and 1 3/8" tall. The patterns are handpainted in brown slip in traditional design including areas marking off cloud point designs and the fertility spiral and snow symbols. Modern Pueblo pottery like this piece, is directly influenced by the pottery made before 1400 in various Puebloan cultures in the Southwest. Of moderately thin walled construction and wood fired, this pottery vessel was made and signed by R. Dixson and was collected in 1940. If you are looking for a traditional pot for a collector, or perfect gift, this is a very nice example at a very reasonable price!
