SquareTrade © AP6.0| Handmade Laguna Pueblo Traditional Decorated Water Olla="times"> This traditional olla -- water jar -- features native clay, traditionally coiled and hand-formed, with polychrome slip painted decoration. It features the traditional storage jar form which was trasported, in larger sizes, by carrying it balanced on the head. This kiln-fired vase was created by L.A. Cheromiah of Old Laguna Village in the late 1990s. The colors are traditional for Laguna Pottery. It is 6 3/4" high, 6 3/4" diameter. Laguna Pueblo, lying more than a day's ride west of Albuquerque, shares linguistic traditions as well as pottery traditions with much better known Acoma Pueblo, which lies further west. Few pots are now made in Laguna, so this is a rare item from a noted potter. Hopefully, the new kiln firing tradition using native, coiled clay construction will help resurrect the pottery tradition at Laguna. If you are looking for a nice example of authentic Keresan Pueblo handmade pottery, then go no further!
