SquareTrade © AP6.0| Handmade Acoma Pueblo Traditionally Decorated Storage Jar This traditional jar features native clay, traditionally coiled and hand-formed, with polychrome slip painted decoration. It features the time-honored form, thin-walled construction and is decorated with double bands of spirals, feather decoration, spirals, florals, and cloud points. The rim is very gently flared outwards. This kiln-fired vase was created by potter, L. Joe. The colors are traditional for Acoma Pottery. It is 5 1/2" high, 7 3/8" diameter. Acoma Pueblo, lying 100 miles west of Albuquerque is the home of successive generations of very accomplished potters and fine-line decorators. Lucy Lewis and her sisters created the fine-line motif form that re-energized Acoma pottery. This olla (water jar) bears some of the parallel scribed fine lines in sections on the white slipped background that is an Acoma tradition. The location fo the quarry where their whitest clay slips are found is a carefully guarded secret.. If you are looking for a nice example of authentic Pueblo handmade pottery, then go no further!
