Traditional, Sterling Inlaid "Rainbird" Buckle & Bolo Set!="times">
This great set features the Bobby & Corraine Shack family's deft touch in clean, pictorial inlay and detailed bezel settings. This is their signature style. The white M.O.P., jet, turquoise and coral reflect nicely from the striking silver channels. Extra background detailing on the buckle adds impact to the time-honored design. The bolo measures 2" long and is set on 36" recycled leather cords with benchmade sterling tips. If the recipient is taller than 5'8" or so, longer cords can be substituted on request. The buckle measures 3" wide and 2" high, and is set upon a swivel hasp for a 1 1/2" belt. The "Rainbird" design is an ancient Pueblo cultural motif, that in the mid-1950s, became associated with the "thunderbird" design and cultural concept found in Northern Great Plains culture -- which is a very different idea. The launch of the Ford Motor Co. vehicle in 1955, and its hood ornament, also made the connection. It has also come to be associated with eagle motifs, but this design is a traditional symbol of renewal, growth and plenty, and is found in most Southwestern Pueblo cultures. This is very similar to the way in which the color "turquoise" -- a trademarked symbol of Tiffany & Company in 1920, became forever associated with the stone, when in reality, the mineral turquoise has always been found in a wide range of colors.
