Bright Kokopelli Pattern Overlay Women's Expansion Watchband!
This wonderful band features traditional tooled/overlaid Hopi Kokopelli patterns in brush finish sterling silver with textured, oxidized background. The shape is gently rounded and rolled with a soft inside edge for strength and style. It measures 3/4" max. wide, 6 1/4" inner circumference, relaxed. Excpanded, add 1 1/2" length. The tubes, fro the watchface pins are set at 9/16" wide, but can be shortened a bit, if a narrower pin width is to be used. This band is sized for most medium sized women's watchfaces. The expansion band is stainless steel, and it, too may be shortened by removing links. Kokopelli is the Hopi Kachina spirit who is heralded as the bringer of rain, growht and plenty -- he's a seed carrier, and his belsssing is sought at the beginning of the growing season. He's also connected witht he music of the frogs and crickets who begin their songs at the time of the Spring rainy season. It is hallmarked inside with the makers mark and is stamped sterling. Hopi silversmiths developed their signature overlay style by returning GIs after WWII, using money from the GI Bill to set up crafts co-operatives. One of the curators of the Museum of Northern Arizona, Barton Wright was instrumental in helping them recover and re-create ancient, truly Hopi designs in their jewelry making. It is today, one of the forms of American Indian silver jewelry in the highest demand world-wide, and still in relatively small supply. Imitated often, it is rarely equalled in detail, finish and design. Authentic Hopi work, like this watchband, are a miracle of the silversmith's art.
