Old Handmade, Navajo Sterling Cuff Bracelet with Unusual Domestic Turquoise -- Very Traditional!="times">
This wonderful item features traditional silversmithing and traditional design! It was collected as Dead Pawn in the late 1970s, but may be older. The reverse side bears an unknown hallmark stamp, and "sterling". Our 30 years' experience with this kind of work, the locale it was collected in (the four corners area, near Shiprock, NM) and materials used would indicate its maker was probably Navajo. The freeform cabochon shows a lot of matrix color, as well as the blue-green turquoise, plus, it carries two very unusual, quartz inclusions that are translucent. It measures 1 7/8" maximum width and an inside circumference of 6 3/4" including a 1" gap. The silver shows substantial signs of wear, and the patina has not been removed. This piece was collected from an Albuquerque estate and had been in storage for many years. This is a wonderful example of the decorative elements in very traditional Navajo jewelry until the late 1980s.
